Senior Advisor - Pillar Two
Maria Pia is a Senior Advisor at Pillar Two, a global advisory firm specialised in business and human rights. In this role, Maria Pia supports business efforts to respect for human rights and has significant business and human rights experience including conducting salient human rights risk analyses and human rights gap assessments, drafting human rights policy, process documents and roadmaps, developing and delivering human rights trainings and advising companies on existing and emerging regulatory standards on modern slavery reporting (including the Australian Modern Slavery Act) and mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence (including the European Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive).
Prior to joining Pillar Two, Maria Pia worked as Senior Legal Advisor at the International Bar Association (IBA) Legal Policy & Research Unit where she managed the IBA’s policy, training and research projects on business and human rights and corporate integrity and she worked as Senior Legal Advisor at the Italian law firm, RP Legal & Tax, advising Italian and international corporate clients from multiple sectors on ESG and business and human rights.
Maria Pia is an officer of the IBA’s Business and Human Rights Committee and a member of the European Model Clauses Project (ECM), a project established by a network of business and human rights experts with the objective to develop model contract clauses designed to uphold human rights and environmental standards in global supply chains.
Maria Pia holds a PhD in Law and Economics from Erasmus University (Rotterdam), an LLM in Law and Economics from the University of Bologna, Hamburg University, and the Indira Ghandi Institute of Development Research (Mumbai), and a Bachelor of Law with Distinction from LUISS Guido Carli (Rome).
