Michele Renda is an attorney admitted to practice in England & Wales, France, Spain and Italy. He is a seasoned ethics, human rights and sustainability expert with twenty years’ experience gained in international law firms (McDermott Will & Emery and Hogan Lovells) and in the private sector for a large multinational energy group (Eni). His professional experiences in the international legal field include assignments at the European Patent Office in Munich, at the Italian Trade Commission in New York and at the World Bank Group in Washington DC, where he has worked on transparency in the extractive sector in Chad, Senegal, Mauritania and Tunisia and on the environmental and social framework of the International Finance Corporation. He received his juris doctor from the Catholic University of Milan and has completed his international law education in Germany at Eberhard Karls Universität, France at Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, Spain at Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, UK at College of Law and USA at the George Washington University, where he focused on international environmental law. He has earned a master’s in international trade, with a scholarship awarded by the Italian Ministry of Industry. Mr. Renda has also lived for three years in Mozambique and one year in Kazakhstan, where he conducted complex legal negotiations in connection with the financing, monetization and production of the world’s largest oil & gas projects and contributed to the projects-related environmental and social impact assessment and redress of affected communities. He has given seminars and training for the private sector, business associations and universities in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Mr. Renda is a native Italian speaker and fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German and has provided pro-bono legal and language services to refugees and asylum-seekers mainly from Sub-Saharan Africa.
