Oyeniyi Abe

Business and Human Rights Specialis Centre for Comparative Law in Africa

Dr. Oyeniyi Abe is a Business and Human Rights Specialist. He is the Executive Director of the Center for the Advancement of Responsible Business Conduct, and a Research Associate at the Centre for Comparative Law in Africa, University of Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Abe has practiced and taught human rights, corporate and commercial law in Africa, Europe, and North America. He has served as a visiting researcher at the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism, McGill University, Canada; Institute for Business Ethics, University of St Gallen, Switzerland, Canadian Institute of Resources Law, Canada, and as a Fulbright Scholar at Loyola University, Chicago, USA. He has published numerous articles, book chapters and academic essays on business and human rights, sustainable development, and natural resource management. His recent book is Implementing Business and Human Rights Norms in Africa (2022). He has provided consultancy services to international organizations such as the World Bank and the African Union on various aspects of development projects and human rights observance. Dr. Abe serves on the Executive Council of the International Law Association, Nigerian Branch, and is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, the Global Business and Human Rights Scholars Association, and the Business and Human Rights Teaching Forum Meeting.
Dr Abe holds a doctorate (PhD) in commercial law from the University of Cape Town; a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from University of California Berkeley, and another LL.M from Central European University, Hungary, and a Bachelor in Law from University of Benin, Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Higher Education Authority.
