Engineer, nature photographer and then documentary filmmaker since the mid-1980s. He has made documentaries on the Mediterranean fauna and in particular on the monk seal, a species he also described in a book entitled: THE MYSTERY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN. He is president of the Gruppo Foca Monaca APS association and a consultant to the RAC/SPA Office of UNEP, an entity for which he drafted a three-year monitoring plan for the monk seal. He is also a member of the Monk Seal Working Group of the International Convention for the Pelagos Sanctuary.
