A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, the University of Birmingham, Imperial College London, he was general manager of MAERSK in Togo after having been at the headquarters in Copenhagen of the same shipping company as a Shipping student and having held the position of assistant of the financial director for Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland) and the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). In Togo, Edem Kokou TENGUÉ was financial director of MAERSK Togo, Damco Togo and Lomé Terminal Service, before taking over in 2016 as general manager of the group in Lomé. In 2019 while still holding the MD position of Maersk Togo he was elected by his peers as president of the Professional Association of Shipping and Ship Consignment Companies in Togo (NAVI-TOGO). He was elected at the Chamber of commerce of Togo and was member of the board of large Enterprises of Togo.
Named among the 20 Young Leaders of the French African foundation in 2017, he was named in 2018 by Choiseul among the young economic leaders of tomorrow. In 2022 ICCE (Institute of chartered economists) named him among the most influential young economists of sub-Saharan Africa.
A specialist in Macroeconomics and in the blue economy and more specifically maritime transport and ports, he joined the Togolese government in 2020 as Minister of Maritime Economy, Fisheries and Coastal Protection.
He advocates for a sustainable blue economy that preserves oceans and puts emphasis on biological rest for fishing as well as a greener sea transportation based on cleaner fuels for vessels and their emissions control.
