Phoebe Carter
Principal Environmental Consultant - Nature Positive
Phoebe is a Chartered Environmentalist and Principal Environmental Consultant for Nature Positive, helping businesses and those who invest in them to manage the risks and opportunities arising from their impacts and dependence on nature.
Before that she worked for Habitat First Group for 15 years as Chief Ecologist and then as their Head of Environment & Sustainability. In this role she worked on converting former mineral extraction sites into sustainable holiday home destinations built with nature in mind. Her work covered 500 hectares of former quarries (sand, gravel and limestone) in the south-west of England and she oversaw all aspects of nature conservation from the masterplanning phase through to ongoing operations.
Phoebe is also an approved Building with Nature assessor with much experience of working with developers, planners, architects, landscape architects, and statutory and non-statutory organizations to design places that are better for people, climate, and wildlife. Two of her sites were finalists in both the 2019 Ciria Big Biodiversity Challenge award and in the 2020 Landscape Institute's National Building with Nature Award.
Prior to this, Phoebe also worked in ecological consultancy both in the UK and overseas and she was a volunteer member of the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum Europe Territories Working Group, advising on nature conservation issues on the Cyprus Sovereign Base Areas.
Phoebe has also been a trustee of The Mammal Society and was Chair of their Surveys Committee for three years.
